About US

Selam Fruit was established by Selam grownups; it is officially registered as an association. Its main objectives are to create a support group for care leavers that is fully integrated. Towards this end, they were supporting those who were grown in selam and could not earn their livings after they got all the services needed from the care center and were fully integrated.

Selam Fruit is an association that was started by the will of selam care leavers to assist those young care leavers who are not self-sustaining or disadvantaged. The office is located near Selam Children Village, in Yeka Subcity, Ward 11. We rented an office at the Estifanos building.

Selam fruit inception dates back to 12. It was established as Selam Fruits. Starting on November 31, 2021, it was certified and recognized as a local organization according to its legal personality with registry number 5945 and the civil society organization proclamation no. 1113, 2019.

Selam Fruits has an organized general assembly and executive board members. We do meetings at least twice a year and decide on sensitive agendas. It is the executive board that manages and decides on routine activities and finances. In addition, the board is eligible to find out the source of donations and member contributions.

Selam fruits, selam children’s village, Selam Swiss and sos Children’s Village works as partners amended by memorandum of understanding (MOU) to engage in the reestablishment of young care leavers.

Selam Fruits designed and implemented a project proposal for single mothers to be self-reliant and emotionally and socially stable. On this project, the café and restaurant service is giving job opportunities to single mothers. We are encouraging young care Leavers to be self-reliant and confident in society. We also work hard to be a bridge between Selam children’s village and a stable environment in the community. Next, we would like to work on the married young care leaver’s women to be economically empowered. Third, we have a plan to feed poor community members at least once a day. In addition, we also like to give life skills training to the beneficiaries, empowering them to be self-sufficient by providing seed money for them to engage in small businesses. We are working to get donations and funds from domestic and international NGOS.

Selam Fruits Finance is normally audited by internal and external auditors; in addition, the audit report is reported and evaluated by stakeholders like Selam Children Village, the board and general assembly, the Swiss Selam Board, and the F.D.R.E. Authority of Civil Society Organizations as well. These stakeholders, in one way or another, are eyewitnesses or approvers that motivate us to be confident and transparent.

The association has been in existence for over 5 years as a legally registered association and currently serves about 300 beneficiaries. Though it has been largely successful in achieving its goals, it also faces significant challenges, such as limited funding and a lack of long-term sustainability. The association has also struggled with low visibility in the local community and hasn’t been able to effectively communicate its impact to its stakeholders.
